You don't actually need to measure anything to order from us — our free on-site measurement covers it. But if you want a quick price estimate over WhatsApp first, a rough measurement is all we need. Here's how to do it properly.
What you need
A metal measuring tape (fabric tapes stretch and lie), a phone to note the numbers, and two minutes per window. Measure in centimetres — it's what we use for quotations.
Decide: inside the recess, or outside?
An inside (recess) mount sits within the window opening — it looks neat and built-in, but needs enough depth and square corners. An outside mount fixes to the wall above the window and overlaps it — it's more forgiving, blocks more light, and makes windows look bigger.
Rule of thumb for Malaysian condos: aluminium window frames with shallow recesses usually suit an outside mount. Deep plaster recesses in landed homes can go either way. If unsure, measure both ways and tell us — we'll advise.
Inside (recess) mount — measure the opening
- •Width: measure the opening at the top, middle and bottom. Use the SMALLEST of the three.
- •Height: measure left, centre and right. Use the smallest.
- •Check depth: you need roughly 7 cm of flat depth for the bracket to sit inside.
- •Don't subtract anything — we make the fitting allowances during production.
Outside mount — measure the coverage
- •Width: window opening + at least 5 cm on each side (10 cm total) to block light gaps.
- •Height: from where the bracket will sit (usually 10–15 cm above the opening) down to the sill — or to the floor for full-height coverage.
- •Note anything in the way: handles, grilles, aircon trunking, curtain rails.
The mistakes we see every week
- •Assuming both sides of a window are the same height — Malaysian walls are rarely perfectly square.
- •Measuring the glass instead of the opening.
- •Using one measurement instead of three per direction.
- •Forgetting the window grille sticks out past the frame.
