Blinds vs Curtains in Malaysia: Which Should You Choose?

5 min read · Updated July 2026

We sell and install both, so we have no reason to push you either way. Here's the comparison we give customers during home visits — including the combinations that work better than either one alone.

Cost

Blinds generally cost less for the same window: our roller blinds start from RM 10 per square foot, while custom day-and-night curtains start from around RM 60 per foot of track because of the fabric volume and sewing work. For a whole house, that difference adds up quickly.

Heat — the Malaysian question

Direct afternoon sun is the enemy. Sunscreen roller blinds cut glare and UV while keeping your view — something curtains can't do (they're either open or closed). But a thick blackout curtain with a sheer layer insulates a bedroom better than any blind for sleeping in the afternoon heat.

West-facing living room: sunscreen blinds win. Bedroom you want cave-dark and cool: blackout curtains or dual roller blinds both work — pick by look.

Maintenance in our climate

Humidity and dust are hard on fabric. Curtains need taking down and washing every few months in Malaysian conditions. Blinds wipe clean in place — a duster or damp cloth, done. If you have dust allergies, helpers who don't do laundry, or simply better things to do, blinds are the low-effort choice.

Look and feel

This one's honest preference. Curtains soften a room and add luxury — there's a reason hotels use them. Blinds look cleaner and more architectural, and suit modern condo interiors. Zebra blinds sit somewhere in between: the layered fabric look without the bulk.

The combinations most customers end up choosing

  • Living room: sunscreen roller blinds + sheer curtains — daytime view and heat control, evening softness.
  • Master bedroom: blackout curtains + sheer, or dual roller blinds if you prefer minimal.
  • Kids' rooms & studies: blackout or zebra blinds — washable, no cords to grab (child-safe options).
  • Kitchen & bathrooms: aluminium venetian blinds — moisture-proof, wipeable.
  • Balcony/patio: that's outdoor blinds territory — a different product entirely.

Bottom line

Whole-house practicality on a budget: blinds. Bedroom comfort and luxury: curtains, or both layered. And since our measurement visit is free and covers both, you don't have to decide before we get there — see the fabrics in your own rooms first.
